FIRST AID TRAINING  

 

 Central Helicopter Training Academy is a Red Cross approved service provider.  We offer training to our students and to the general public as required.  Our facility was built in 2009 at the St. Thomas Municipal Airport and offers a lounge and lunchroom and a large classroom with smart board technology.  Clean, friendly and secure classroom environment.

 Standard First Air & CPR-C or CPR-HCP Course:  Comprehensive First Aid & CPR techniques for those who need training for work requirements, or who want more knowledge to respond to emergencies in the workplace or at home.  The course covers a variety of topics from basic (such as cardiovascular and breathing emergencies, CPR Level C, AED prevention of disease transmission) to in-depth topics such as sudden medical conditions and injuries to the head and spine.

 Course content:   

  • Preparing to Respond
  • The EMS System Check, Call, Care
  • Airway Emergencies (choking)
  • Breathing & Circulation Emergencies (hyperventilation, asthma, severe allergic reaction, heart attack, stroke, deadly bleeding)
  • First Aid for Respiratory & Cardiac Arrest (CPR and Defibrillation)
  • Head & Spine Injuries
  • Bone, Muscle & Joint Injuries (splinting)
  • Wound care (bandaging, knocked-out tooth, amputation, penetrating chest injuries)
  • Sudden Medical Emergencies (fainting, diabetes, seizures, emergency childbirth)
  • Environmental Emergencies (hypothermia, frostbite, heat exhaustion, heat stroke, poisoning, alcohol poisoning)

 Course Length:  14-16 hours over 2 days

Emergency First Aid & CPR-A Course:  Simple First Aid & CPR techniques taught in an interactive environment for individuals who want an overview of First Aid & CPR for the workplace or home.  The course covers skills needed to recognize, prevent and respond to cardiovascular emergencies for Adults, CPR Level A, AED, and other topics such as choking, airway and breathing emergencies and prevention of disease transmission.
